Parents matter to how well children do at school.
As parents we are our child’s first and longest serving teachers and unless we do a good job our children may not be the best they can be. A great deal of international research says so.
They spend too long outside the classroom, perhaps as much as 85 per cent of their waking hours, for professional teachers – no matter how good they are - to do it all without the support of the family.
A parent needs to enjoy taking a consistent and active interest in what their child is learning at school. A parent needs to hold worthwhile conversation with the child about all kinds of learning. A parent needs to look for opportunities to continue the teaching they began when they first looked into their baby’s eyes.
Learnaspirebe.com seeks to provide parents with information and ideas to help them do all of this. It is part of the groundbreaking GEMS Parental Engagement programme. GEMS Education runs international schools in many parts of the world for around 100,000 children and we believe passionately about engaging our parents in the learning of their student children.
But you don’t have to be a GEMS parent to make use of learnaspirebe.com
You do, however, need to be a committed parent. Committed to continue the learning journey you embarked on with your child when they were born. This is not about supervising homework, it is not about investing hours of time you don’t have in your busy lives. It’s about the little things that have an enormous effect. It’s about asking your child: “What did you learn today?” It’s about listening, really listening, to the answer and beginning a conversation.
On the pages of this site you will find regularly updated ideas and information for learning at home, parenting that encourages successful learners and interesting news stories for parents like you.
Get in touch and let us know what you’d like more of – and less of. We promise to listen. We will get better with your input.
Thanks for being here. Your children will not be children for long. Make the most of this fabulous time with them. They will benefit and so will you.
