• Be a role model of learning
• Guide routines and good habits
• Set standards and expectations
• Demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning, school and teachers
• Role model learning – read, take courses, try new things
• Role model perseverance – stick with difficult tasks
• Challenge yourself, set new goals
• Notice when learning happens - “hey you got it!”
• Praise time spent studying: “you’ve been studying for half an hour, take a break!”
• Praise progress: “You’ve improved from a C to a B grade, keep up the good work!”
• Praise efforts: “I know the work isn’t easy, you’ve been trying really hard.”
• Learning happens through mistakes too: “You tried your best and learned that…”
• Role model risk taking - be able to admit mistakes or ask for help
